This image shows Fast Plant seeds under magnification (sorry--I don't know how much magnification) making the micropyle visible. In the topmost seed, you can see a dark, somewhat circular patch on the left--this area contains the transfer cells, which function much like a placenta, transporting nutrition to the plant embryo from the endosperm (learn a lot about transfer cells here: http://www.amjbot.org/content/90/6/957.full). The micropyle comes into play during pollination and germination (see more here: http://www.botanical-online.com/llavorangles.htm#The%20microphyle).
